The Corn Toss Challenge

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

York Beach Ball Park - Under the Tent 11-4

$100 per team

Details About Scoring

Registration Form

What is Corn Toss?   This game is based on the wildly popular Corn Hole game played in the Midwest also known as Tailgate Toss. The boards are placed 27’ apart, with a team member at each end.  You toss a bag of corn (like a bean bag) that weighs about a pound at the board, which is slanted and has a 6” hole.  Each bag left on the deck is worth 1 point.  Any bags that go through the hole are worth 3 points.  Your opponent can knock your bag off to cancel your point.  After the first group of 4 bags are tossed, your teammate and the other opponent then toss toward your board.  The total of each round is added to the previous and the game is played to 21.

How do I get involved?   Grab a partner and join us under the tent on October 18th! All moneys raised from registration will go to the York Education Foundation.

We are asking that you register your team by dropping off your registration. Click Here for the Registration Form

We welcome adults - children will have their own board to play on in the KidsFest area in York Village.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams.

The tournament will follow a single-elimination format.  Each team will need to be registered and paid in advance of play.  Space is limited, so please register early.

Game Play

In double play, partners shall stand at opposite boards.

Each team will have 4 bags of one color, and all 8 bags begin at one end.

                            (Bags are approximately 1 pound)

A coin flip determines which team has honors in round one.

The team with honors will begin by tossing bag to opposite board.

A player may throw from either side of the board, behind the foul line.

Throws alternate between opponents until all 8 bags have been thrown.

If a bag hits the ground and bounces up onto the board, remove that bag for it does not count.

Count the points scored in the round. Bags are then turned over to team partners at the opposite board, and play continues in the same manner to complete the inning.

Points System

In-The-Hole     3 points for a bag that goes through the hole

In-The-Count   1 point for a bag that is on the playing surface

In-The-Count   1 point for a bag that is hanging into the hole

In-The-Count   1 point for a bag that is hanging off the edge, but not touching the ground

-0 points for a bag that is hanging off the front edge, but also touching the ground

-0 points for a bag that is on the playing surface, but also touching the ground

The team with the highest round score, add the difference of the two scores to their game score.

The team who wins the round is given honors to throw first in the next round. If both teams have the same round score, then the game score stays the same and honors stay with the team who had it the previous round.

Fouls

A players foot goes past the foot foul line (front of board)

A player goes out of turn

Bags that are Out-of-the-count due to fouls are to be removed from the board surface prior to continuation of play:

Bag that is not delivered within the twenty second time limit

Bag that contacted the ground before coming to rest on the board

Bag that struck a previously defined object such as a tree limb, wire, etc.

Any bag that is pitched when the player has started or stepped completely outside the pitching area.

Length of the Game

Point Limits—The Corn Toss match shall be played until the first team reaches 21 at the completion of an inning.  The winning team does not need to win by two points.

Skunks—The game shall be played to 21 unless a team scores 7 or more points at the end of an inning before their opponents score any points.  In this case, the game is a skunk and the team that scores 7 or more points win the match.

Thank you & we look forward to your involvement!
