New Brick Sidewalk at York Beach Coming Soon!
There’s good news and bad news about the new brick sidewalk at York Beach. The good news is that the 1360 personally inscribed bricks have arrived. The bad news is that they cannot be laid until the heavy equipment is no longer needed at the Atlantic House project. It is estimated that the bricks will be laid in the new section of public sidewalk along Main St. adjacent to the Atlantic House renovation project by the end of July, weather permitting.
“People are very anxious to see the bricks they ordered, and the new sidewalk. We thank everyone for their patience as we anticipate the completion of phase one of this project,” said Cathy Goodwin, President of the Greater York Region Chamber of Commerce, and founder of the York Beach renaissance Committee.
The project was delayed in 2006 because of the Mother’s Day flood. The new sidewalk was originally going to be laid along Ocean Avenue in front of the Sands Motel, Shelton’s and the Inn on the Blues. Due to new storm water management requirements, this section of sidewalk had to be postponed.
“The developers at the Atlantic House will shoulder the entire cost of building the new public sidewalk. We appreciate their generosity and their assistance in finding a solution to our sidewalk renovation dilemma,” Goodwin continued.
