Fort Foster: Visit Fort Foster, once a fortress manned during World War II, and now owned and operated by the town as a public recreation and beach facility. Fort Constitution: Originally named Fort William and Mary, Fort Constitution holds an important place in United States history. In December 1774 colonists surrounded the British fort and seized light cannon and barrels of gun powder. Many consider the attack to be the first overt act of the Revolution, and it is thought that some of the supplies were used in the Battle of Bunker Hill.Fort Constitution includes Portsmouth Harbor Light.
